the result of that phone call is what is happening now. >> they probably did not think they could get out of his hog ties until he was long gone. he ended up crashing the vehicle and fleeing on foot. that is where we are now. apparently we have found him -- they have found him and the shootout took place just moments ago. >> we got reports when he did flee in a white vehicle, an s.u.v. of some sort that they did find weapons in there, perhaps a rifle, perhaps a sniper rifle of some sort. >> there is so much speculation on where he is. i don't know how many thousands of tips they got because there was a $1 million reward on the conviction of christopher dorner. perhaps, this is finally the

man. >> perhaps. >> hope fli. >> there is eto nor mouse amount of evidence to support that and law enforcement reaction is clearly that they believe this is the suspect. are you still with us? >> i am. >> any activity? we saw the smoke and now there are no signs of what that might have been. >> no signs at all. we took a quick look at where officers are and they are on that road and they are -- we're going to come right here. they are pointing their guns in a northerly direction. seven oaks road is pointing east and west and they are pointing their guns into a northerly direction. the suspect, they believe to be dorner is one of the cabins or in the high ground.

if the suspect has high ground on these officers these officers need all the cover they can get. it is possible he is in these hills and a they are going to need protection. >> you're listening to kabc where there has been activity over the last hour and a half in search for the lapd officer who has been on the run. we understand that he is involved in a shooting of two other police officers. they are in this big bear area just east of los angeles. we understand that people may have been held hostage by him, had made it out, they are the ones that called police. >> we're going to follow this throughout the hour. any time we get new developments we will go back out to california. >> following a tragedy in college parking where two students are dead and a third is

hurt after an apparent murder-suicide. >> the more questions arrive. it unfolded just off the campus in college parking. brad bell begins our coverage from the scene. >> all the shooting did take place around this home. it is rented to students. in fact, the suspect is believed to shot himself and fallen just about right here. it is a too familiar story. the shooter is described as a gifted student yet he suffers from mental illness. he starts to gather weapons and for some reason he turned violent. the peace of this campus was started about 1:00 a.m. >> we heard about 10 shots fired. there was a guy lying on the front steps. >> it was a murder-suicide, two

students were dead a third injured. the man on the steps was the shooter, 23-year-old dayvon green. he is believed to have killed himself after killing his roommate 22-year-old maryland senior stephen rane. he lives next door. >> i'm grateful that i'm alive. >> police say it began when green started these small fires in the backyard of the home on 36th avenue. the roommate spotted the flames and went outside. that's when green pulled out a handgun and opened fire. eventually, he turned the gun on himself. police found the gun with his body and more weapons inside. >> a basketball bat machete, a fully loaded handgun and ammunition. >> police are investigating where the gun came from. green bought the 9 millimeter

sexually assaulted inside the department of homeland security. jennifer donelan joins us with the details. >> thing background on this case we learned from sources this began as a groping investigation at the department of homeland security. sources tell us, late last week information of a much more serious nature came to light, allegations of rape and sexual abuse that weren't told that went on for months. >> wow. as a woman that is really scary. it is right across the street. >> allegations of rape inside the department of homeland security are being taken very increasingly by d.c. police according to sources. >> that is surprising because they are homeland security and

the government in general. >> a 32-year-old woman who works in the cafeteria told detectives her supervisor sexually assaulted her at their workplace. she claimed the abuse began inside the building which is surrounded by tight security last spring. she alleged her super surpriser shoved her face first and raped her. he also sexually assaulted her on numerous occasions since then. >> the security is not letting outside people in, i don't think there is that much security in the way that employees are treated. >> it can happen anymore. i know it should be different because it is homeland security. >> that is unacceptable and to happen in n that building that is even worse. >> now, just moments ago we received this statement from the department of homeland security.

late last year, a contract employee assigned to the nebraska avenue complex cafeteria was arrested following allegation lings of sexual abuse and assault by a fellow contract employee. the individual has been charged in superior court and has been ordered to stay away from the complainant and d.h.s. property. this investigation has taken another turn. i'm jennifer donelan, abc 7 news. >> changing gears here. that is the message after today's gorgeous day outside. the next 24 hours we're going to see a lot of changes. doug is here to look at the wintry weather. >> that is coming back but it is 55 degrees here in arlington. check it out there. you can see the clouds moving across virginia. they will move in tonight.

behind that rain the rain may change to snow. it is mild now. 57 in manassas and fred -- fredericksburg. overnight, the clouds will take over. temperatures will stay mainly above freezing and here we have futurecast with this computer model, clouds increasing throughout the day tomorrow. rain developing during the early afternoon. then as we head into the evening you see the change over the blue. that pushes out where it might change over to snow. how much when, where? all of those important questions will be answered in a few minutes. >> we're just a few hours away from the state of the union address. steve joins us now for the look ahead. >> a lot of issues to cover from economy, gun to the war in

>> a frightening scene this morning after a crane tipped over on a church. it happened just after 10:00 pam. we flew out there after authorities evacuated the school inside. the church may have structural damage and has canceled services on tuesday and wednesday. two crane operators treated for minor injuries but no one inside was hurt. >> residents will be limited on where they can light up for a smoke break. >> this is likely to impact everyone in one way or another. >> the first place you will see the no smoking signs is at the

county. a few high clouds but that's it. as we get through the evening, there will be more on the way of cloudiness approaching from the south and welvet. herndon a high of 55. we're going to take you to rockville which is 54 right now. temperatures are very pleasant. our average high is 46 right now. these are above average by quite a few degrees. bob ryan found earlier this afternoon, some roadway sensors showing that the asphalt and the concrete was in the upper 60's to lower 70's. with a storm coming tomorrow night, we don't think it will be create any big problems. if we get through the night it will drop down into the 30's. 46 for an overnight low as

clouds move in. chicago has the really cold air and it is not that cold at all. we went with a marginal temperature structure. the time frame for precipitation, that is going to be rain but this system has a history of dumping snow across the texas panhandle and partses of alabama. as this system moves in there will be rain. continuing into the evening and as the air organizes a little more and passes to southeast that is when the colder air will be pulled in. that's somehow we'll forecast the rain changing into the snow. as far as how much, it does not look like a major system. again, whatever snow falls it will be melting because of the warmth of temperatures. you can see we're still above

freezing everywhere. late at night where the prea sipation turnover starts in sections of washington county and spreads to the southeast. here's what we have a minor system. we think most of the accumulation will be in the grassy areas and west of washington. right now a 1-2 inch band in loudoun county, out to blue ridge. a small area out the washington county, mainly grassy areas. this is, you know, 24 hours to go before we see a mix or change over. we'll keep an eye on it. but with temperatures above freezing don't expect a major impact. we go back to 50's on thursday and friday. over the weekend, it is going to turn much colder. maybe some flurries with it as we go through saturday night and

here at the capitol. sequestration is expected to take effect at the end of the mop fe that fail to make an agreement they will feel it. they came from around the country and from the metro area. government employees united to denounce mandatory federal spending cuts, the sequestration. >> job loss, loss of pay. >> some people are afraid sequestration will cut into their live i willhood. >> they are going to take money out of our pockets. >> this is about $110 billion slashed annually. >> the government needs to look out for federal employees. >> the latest in spending cuts, they delayed it at the end of the year. they organized the rally and

>> on campus today, specifically within the halls of school of engineering this murder-suicide was felt. the suspected gunman, dayvon green was an engineering grad student. he was seemingly on the path to success. >> it does not make sense that you throw away a bright future like that. >> the victim that was killed was also an engineering student here. he was from lafayette, louisiana. >> it was shocking to see what, you know, people are capable of. >> many students received an e-mail from the campus' president. we are all shocked and deeply saddenedpy the president ordered the west chapel to remain open throughout the day for students to reflect and reflect is what even those who didn't know the

students involved. >> when this happens in another state it does not seem real. but that was like 200 yards from where i live. >> tonight they plan to have a memorial gathering here at the west capital for student who is were impacted by today's incident. kendis gibson, abc 7 news. >> police have found former labd officer christopher dorner and they are locked in a stand off. two officers were wouldn'ted in the shootout. investigators believe he was involved in a burglary in a cabin and had a couple tied up. one of the hostages was able to get out and made a call to police. >> a woman said she was repeatedly sexually assaulted at the homeland security.

>> we're seeing delays on 395 northbound. an earlier crash on the southeast, way. 395 delays and we're seeing delays from the beltway and eastbound 66 an earlier accident is now clear. taking a look at 270 northbound. towards montrose is some delays. it look like the accident is before diamond avenue not a lot of volume in the main lanes. you can see a lot of local lane volumes past montgomery. the lanes in the inner loop as you make your way to 270 and we're seeing slow traffic on and off near 355. this is that latest, back to you. >> have you heard about this, that change of i tinry for the

cruise ship that is stranded out in the gulf of mexico? it was supposed to be towed to mexico now carnival says it ship has drift sod far north it will be towed to alabama. it should arrive on thursday. there is more than 3,000 passengers on board and some are sick and they are dealing with limited access to bathrooms and food. really difficult situations there. >> they are going to need a vacation after that. more surprises coming out of the vatican tonight. it turns out that the pope has had a pacemaker for years and batteries were replaced recently. he says that has nothing to do with his retirement announced due to his declining health. it is unclear if he will go back to his farmer name.

>> we have more on that breaking news coming out of california. police have found that suspect accused of killing one of their own. >> there are reports that he may be in law enforcement terms "contained in a cabin" in the big bear area. that is about three and half hours outside of los angeles. the mountain, all the roads going in have been locked down. so you're seeing police stopping traffic, checking vehicles. that is an emergency vehicle going past. but they are stopping vehicles and searching those vehicles and

making sure the suspect is not inside those vehicles. they believe he is held up in a cabin in the mountains. you can see an officer checking that s.u.v. to make sure. to say that they have him surrounded would be an understatement. the f.a.a. has closed the airspace so all the news helicopters pulled back. the suspect may be in a home where he can watch television and two, he could have numerous weapons and he could shoot and hit a helicopter in the air. there this started about 3:30 our time with a 911 call about a stolen vehicle. police investigated that and it turned out the suspect matching dorner's description was holding two women in a cabin just feet where the media staging area was

over the weekend. one woman got loose and dorner fled in a white pick-up truck. there was an exchange of gunfire with police, we understand two officers were wounded. they are deputies from the san bernardino sheriff's office. they were air lifted to hospitals and we do not have any updates on their condition. police are in standoff mode, if you will. they believe they have the suspect contained inside a cabin but it is possible that he could be outside the cabin. they will probably just wait him out. >> ok, thank you so much. keep an eye on it for us. up next, we have new details about why an old tree was accidently cut down in the district. >> if you are looking to lose weight we have the

>> let's forget tomorrow and jump to thursday and friday. not as warm tomorrow, close to 60 with sunshine. 58 degrees is the high at national reagan airport. 64 in cull. er. our average high is 46. we're way above. some outlowing areas is around 32 and most everybody else will be above freezing. here comes the change. this area of moisture to the south and this low pressure will develop. as it encounters our area we're look agent possibility that we'll see a change from rain to a mix to rain and snow then over to snow. all of this will be near 40 degrees. you can see the blue color and then that is when we expect the transition. nothing heavy temperatures only a little bit below freezing and well above freezing on thursday.
